There are dozens of E-Log devices on the market, and it’s very easy for a trucking company to become overwhelmed with the variety of choices. Many ELDs are packed full of features that small fleets and owner/operators don’t want, don’t need, and don’t want to pay extra for.
The BIT ELD offers a simple, affordable, FMCSA compliant system with a one-time purchase of $295, a 30-day money back guarantee – and no contracts or monthly fees.
Small fleets and independent drivers will find this pricing structure appealing. Most electronic log vendors require some sort of ongoing service plan. One and done pricing makes the BIT ELD system much cheaper in the long run, even above vendors who offer their devices for “free” so long as you sign a contract.
BIT ELD Adapter
At the heart of the BYOD (bring your own device) system, this small adapter plugs into the truck’s diagnostic port without the need for any specialized tools or rewiring. The adapter reads:
- Vehicle Identification Number
- Engine Hours
- Engine on/off (based on RPMs)
- Vehicle in motion (+5 mph)
The device transmits vehicle data via Bluetooth to your smartphone or tablet. Data usage is only a few megabytes per month.
The BIT ELD adapter can easily be moved from truck to truck. This is a great option if you only work part of the year or regularly lease different vehicles. If your truck breaks down, you can simply remove the unit and plug it into your rental without missing a beat.
BIT ELD App
Getting started is very simple. The free app is available for both Apple and Android devices, and after you create or sign in with an existing account, you just connect to the BIT ELD adapter via Bluetooth, and you’re up and running.
The app has a clean, easy-to-use interface and detects vehicle motion to automatically create logs and unique features that help maximize your available drive time.
Hours of Service
- Update duty status when needed
- Edit duty status if something was forgotten
- Certify logs for previous days or at the end of your shift
- Always have 8-14 days of logs for your needed cycle set
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
UPDATE 10/3/18: BIT has added a new Tire Pressure Monitoring System that works within the BIT ELD app. When users buy the TPMS sensor packs, they will be able to get tire pressure readings and alerts in the BIT ELD app.
BIT TPMS is easy to install, with no hardwiring or downtime. The wireless sensors screw securely onto the valve stem of each tire, and send PSI, temperature, and battery level to the app.
Low tire pressures accounts for about 90% of early tire failures, including blowouts on the interstate that can cause down time, trailer damage, road service expenses, potential OOS violations, and even traffic accidents.
Pros and Cons
With its great pricing and ease-of-use, just about every fleet manager will find the BIT ELD appealing. However, larger fleets may find the system a bit light on extra features such as engine diagnostics, two-way messaging, and detailed GPS information. The good news is, a simple app update will take care of new features as they become available.
No monthly fees or contracts
Easy to use app
Limited extra features
